Add Free Hot Looking Live Search To Your Blog

Posted on 20. Oct, 2008 by Phalgun in Featured, Great Tools, Helpful Tips

A live search bar makes a blog look good. If you know about a theme called K2 for wordpress, it uses a live search bar by default to search the blog, and there are lots of plugins for wordpress which can also add the same feature to your current theme, but you will have to mess a lot with codes which most of us do not like.

So, is there any easy way to to have a fancy and useful live search on your blog or website? Yes, it’s called Sikbox. It was launched by a blog named abduzeedo.com, which I follow regularly as it hosts tons of photoshop resources, which helps me a LOT.

Sikbox is the easiest way to have a fancy and useful live search on your blog. Sikbox looks totally fantastic. Creating one for your blog and installing is very easy. All you have to do is fill a simple form which collects some simple information about your blog and generates a code. Installing it on your blog is as simple as a pie. All you have to do is copy and paste the code you generated in your blog’s theme code. If you are using wordpress, it should be even more easier for you if your theme is widgetized. That’s it. You don’t need to have any programming knowledge, you don’t have to pay any fees and you don’t have to fill long registration forms.
The results are displayed to the user in a fashion similar to google. The result is listed in the decreasing order of relevancy to the term searched for. And the most important part is that you get the ability to customize it according to your taste.

Here’s the search bar I created for foostr using Sikbox. Take a test drive of Sikbox below. All you have to do type something and wait for the results to appear.

Looks totally cool. Doesn’t it?

What kind of sites it supports?

This tool works with all CMS’s including Wordpress, Drupal, Textpattern, and many more… In addition, it works with static sites as well.

How does Sikbox work?

It is based on a service called BOSS which is an abbr. for Build your Own Search Service which is Yahoo!’s open search web services platform.

Do check it out and share your thoughts about it here.
